Minutes 12th September

Minutes of the meeting held on 12th September 2012at Yew Tree Villa.

Present

John Sutton, Steph, Gill Eyre, Chris Bargman, Clare Ratcliff, Steve and Yvonne Jones, Paula.

Apologies

Olwen Law, Jo Bargman, Pete and Marcelle Seaward- Brown.

Apologies from Yvonne for the minutes not going out.

John reported the following.

Steve and John had been to Keepers Cottage. The gate had been hung and concreted in, and a new latch had been put on. David Griffin (who lives in the cottage) had been very helpful. He has cleared and cut up the tree that had fallen down and had been obstructing part of the way over the brook.

Pleasure ride- Although the weather was not on our side on the day the few people that did go out enjoyed themselves. All positive feedback from the riders. Perhaps we could do it again next year. It was suggested we write a letter of thanks to the Millichamp’s and enclose a cheque for £20 towards their church funds. Yvonne to do this. Chris will post on the website thanks to all who helped. Money made was £216. With some expenses for fuel used by John.

Thank-you to everyone who helped in some way or other.

Chris has received our cheque book and paying in book.

A cheque was made out to John for fuel (used on the fun ride), along with the invoice for sand, gravel, and cement.

As we will be using Cyril’s dumper on the road to transport gravel to our next project, it was suggested we look into the cost of insurance. Steve and John have looked into the matter ahead of the meeting. It will be added to the fleet insurance held by Steve Jones, cost may be about £60 for the year, but as we probably won’t be using it in the winter we may get a rebate. Cost effective to insure for the year rather than just a month or two.

A work party had cleared the end of the Prescott-Detton bridleway, thanks to Paula, Clare Pete and Yvonne and John.

There are a few other areas that need attention, a short length from just below the nursery to the bridge.

Hinton bridleway is very over grown but may die down in the winter.

Hill houses- little gate needs the big stone moved and stone put in, this will be done when we have insurance on the dumper, the latch also needs changing to a pull catch.

Steph had had a lengthy conversation with Kevin Jones the Enforcement officer regarding bridleways in our area that we are unable to use or are very difficult to negotiate .individuals need to write and let them know where the problem areas are. It is no good doing it on-block as it doesn’t carry enough weight. They have to have recorded evidence of the problem areas. Steph suggested she post a letter on the website for people to print off and use. Paula suggested some of us walk the routes so we know more about what we are talking about.

Fund raising- it was suggested we have a fun pub ride, a quiz with supper or a skittles night, with curry for supper.

Steph offered us the use of her premises, she used to have a skittle alley, so will find them out.

If it is a quiz, Yvonne to check the availability of Farlow and Oreton Village Hall on the. 9th or 10th November. Or it could be a social evening with supper.

Any other business

Prescott 2nd part needs to be done soon. It is not to wet at the moment. Steve will contact John when he is in a position to start.

The Tangles- the people from Acorns Lodge have cleared a bit ,we will have a work party there on Friday 21st September starting at 6pm. Start at the Gate Hangs Well end..

Date of the next meeting is Tuesday 9th October 7.30pm at Upper Marshes.

For the helpers at the fun ride who would like to ride to the Three Forked Pole, we are meeting at the end of Callow Lane, Bromdon Farm at 3pm today, saturday.Vehicles will be able to park on the hard standing.
