Fun Quiz Night Success
All our labour for bridlepath improvements is voluntary but we need funds to purchase materials and also hire of equipment e.g. digger. It is now looking increasingly unlikely that we will get any real financial support via the council so we decided to run a fun quiz night to try to raise some funds.
After an initial panic that we would not sell enough tickets we ended up with almost more people than we could cope with (90+ and 14 quiz teams). The evening was a great success and most importantly has managed to raise some vital funds which we can now call upon to undertake priority work. Jo and Chris organised the evening with support from other volunteers in the group (including Yvonne, Gill, Clare, Pete).

Many thanks to everyone who supported this event and helped raise some funds.
We will provide an update on the amount raised shortly.

General Chat Posts
This area is for any general comments or information that members want to post onto the website and that is not linked to a route that is already listed under the Bridleways heading.
Meeting with Council
John, Chris had site visit with council and council agreed to contact owner to ask them to cut back growth or to allow the Bridleway group to have a work party to clear this route.
Note – This route was cleared by council some time ago at great expense (had to remove a lot of dumped rubbish etc.). Now overgrown and needs clearing.
Meeting with Council
Site visit to look at the wet area with John, Chris and Phil Betts (Council) -see Post below . Council will look into supplying stone and possibly 100m of 4″ drainage pipe and let us know if this is possible. Depending upon fund raising to pay for digger costs we can then hopefully do the work on this this summer.
Meeting with council
Council informed us that this is on list of priority work and depending upon budgets will be done ASAP. They have already lined up someone to do the work. They will let us know as soon as they know if/when this will be done. In meantime this route is to be avoided unless it has been VERY dry and even then is not really safe.
Site Meeting with Council
Site meeting held with John, Chris and Phil Betts (Shrop Council) to review options. Agreed that most practical option is option A.
See Post below for details of options and map.
The council will clear the route of the existing bridleway from the road near to the cattle grid but off the common down the side of The Green and diagonally accross to ultimately meet up with the Nunnery Lane bridleway. They will install a new gate off the road adjacent to the Green (there is a suitable pull in). For those wanting to stay on the common it is possible to find their own route onto the road on the common side of the cattle grid.
The council will arrange necessary paperwork with SWT for the permissive route around “The Green”. When this has been agreed we will need a work party to lay a drainage pipe behind the Green. Might get away with doing this by hand to keep costs down and hopefully will not need much stone. Phil is looking into whether council can provide drainage pipe and stone (also needed for the Prescot route).
The other issue of the gate onto Nunnery Lane was discussed. The council will look into moving the gate further up the lane away from the steep drop. Hopefully this will be done by the council at same time as doing the other work above.
Hope to get this route open in next few months.
