Volunteer group helping to keep bridleways open in south shropshire
The work party tomorrow (Sunday 13th Oct) has been postponed as not everyone is able to attend.
We will try to re-arrange for a future date.
Reminder for next meeting. Note change of venue. Now John’s at 8:00pm
Hope to see you then.
John, Chris, Clare, Pete (and Lando, pictured, and Oz) cleared the new permissive route and linking bridleways and put in some way-markers (complete with some very smart finger markers made by John). This should help people find their way but we could probably do with another couple of posts at points to make it clear which is the correct way to go.
The route is lovely to ride and makes a great addition to our network of off-road riding options.
Thanks to all who have helped get this opened (see previous post).
Work party to put in marker posts and clear the new route and adjoining bridleways (see previous post for location details).
We will now meet from 5:00 pm onwards (to allow John to get away for an evening appointment).

The new route (yellow) and the 2 adjoining bridleways (blue, see map) need to be marked and also some clearance work is needed where the bracken and gorse has grown up.
We have some posts in stock which need to be put in at suitable points on the route.
I propose we have a work party on Friday 23rd August to do the work starting at 6:00pm. It should only take an hour if enough people turn up. Please contact me (chris@cleeviewbridleways.org.uk) to let me know if you can come along.

The new permissive route joining the Jack Mytton Way onto the Common is now open (see map). This has been our major project for 2013 and has taken a significant investment in time and material.
In the past this route was regularly used by horse riders and walkers and allowed access between the the two sides of the common avoiding the road. Unfortunately changes in drainage from adjoing land has meant this route became impassable.
The Jack Mytton Way near to the gate off the common by The Mounts entrance had also become very wet and difficult to negotiate in anything but very dry weather.
The Clee View Bridleway Group sort agreement from the land owners (Shropshire Wildlife Trust) for this route to be made a permissive bridleway which was granted in 2012. This was a major project and required a significant investment in materials and equipment hire.

We submitted a project proposal to the Cleobury and Rural Local Joint Committee for a grant to help with the costs of the work which was approved in July 2013. This made the project possible so many thanks to them for their support.
Over 3 days solid hard work and long days (August 8th, 9th and 10th) Steve and John, with some help from Chris and Yvonne, have done a fantastic job in making this route safe and usable for horse riders and walkers.
Thanks must particularity go to John Sutton for putting so much of his own time and energy into this project. Thanks must also go to Steve Jones for his expert digger driving and great skill in making impassable wet ground safe whilst minimising any damage to the landscape and wildlife.
The route now needs signage and also some clearance work to make the route clear and safe. We will be organising a work party soon to complete this work.
John has arranged with Steve to do the digger work on the new permissive route joining the Jack Myton Way stating Thursday 8th August. It is anticipated this will take 3 days (Thursday ,Friday and Saturday).
Please come along and help sometime over these days if you can. Help needed will include shovelling gravel, clearing route, and putting in new sign posts. Give either John or Steve a ring to check on timings and what you need to bring.
See map for location. We will be working at points 1 2 and 3.

Good news. The Grant we were awarded by the Cleobury Rural Local Joint Committee has now been received and is in our account. This will allow us to go ahead with our plans for the new permissive route and improvements on Catherton Common.
