Fund Raiser – Update

Just a quick note to say that we are hoping to have a fund raising skittles evening soon. This may possibly be in collaboration with Farlow & Oreton Village Hall.  We had provisionally proposed a meeting in The New Inn, Oreton on Monday 3rd Nov to make plans but a) the pub does not open Mondays and b) we need to know if the option of a joint event is going to be practical.

As soon as we have a decision on this we will let you know and arrange a meeting to discuss details.

Meeting 27th October and Thanks

First many thanks are due to Steve and John (plus Yvonne, Pete and Chris) for the hard work they have put in to Route A (Hinton – Winterdyne). John and Steve spent most of the week working on the drainage/improvements. The work has been completed and this route is now safe and use-able.

We now urgently need to review our finances and fund raising and propose to hold a meeting on Monday 27th October 7:30pm at John’s house.

Please let John or myself know if you are able to attend (or not).

Work Party – Route A

John, Steve, Yvonne, Clare and Chris had a successful session on Friday (12th) clearing the Route A which was virtually impassable. Once the drainage work has been done this will be a lovely addition to our bridleway network.

John and Steve hope to start work on the drainage work this week. Please contact Steve or John if you are able to help even if it is only to drop by for moral support and take refreshments.

Work Party 6:00pm Fri 12th Sep – Important

John has heard from the council and the stone and drainage pipe is ready for us to use for the Hinton project (route A).

To allow Steve and John to access the path and do the work we first need a work party to clear the route.

Please try to come along this Friday (12th Sept), meeting at the Hinton end of the path (see map) at around 6:00pm.  Please bring loppers, strong gloves etc. to clear back undergrowth.

Drop me or John an email to let us know if you can come along.

Thanks

Chris & John

Project for Route A – Hinton to Hardwick to be supported

Great news, we have just heard from the council that they will provide the materials necessary to improve the drainage on Route A, Hinton to Hardwick Forge. This is a major project and will make an important route usable again.

Steve, John and Chris had a site visit to survey the route on Wednesday and Chris emailed Tim (Rights Of Way Officer) with a schedule of materials and work plan. Tim contacted Chris next day and had agreed to finance the materials.

The drainage pipe will be on order this week and will be delivered to John’s and we can then order the stone when we need it direct from the haulage contractor who will invoice the council. Materials to be supplied are –

16 tonne drainage gravel
16 tonne fine/small stone for topping
32 tonne 75mm down stone or similar
12 x 6m lengths of twin wall perforated pipe (6″diam)
Costs for digger and dumper hire will be financed from our own funds. Steve and John estimate it will take them approximately 3 days. We may need to arrange a fund raiser to cover a small shortfall but Steve is happy to wait for final payment so we can undertake the work as soon as the pipes have arrived and Steve and John can allocate some time.
The first job will be to have a work party to clear the overhanging branches and undergrowth. We will need volunteers to help with this, date to be agreed.
The other improvement and access work projects that the council agreed to do (see notes under Meetings) are now in their plan and will be done as soon as they can arrange them.
Many thanks to Tim Simmons from Shropshire Council for his help.
